Open to Life Through Your Voice

One to One Sessions Online

is any of this familiar?

I know I have a voice but I don’t feel confident using it · I don’t think I can sing in tune · I was told at school I can’t sing · I enjoy singing in the car or shower · I’m intrigued about the health benefits of singing · I would love to sing with others but feel shy · I know I can sing but I have lost confidence and would like to reinvigorate my relationship to voice

Vocal Wounds and Learning Wounds

Many of us were told to be quiet as children, that our voices were not important, that we couldn’t sing or the sounds we made were not good enough. Singing has become a highly charged word, bringing up anxiety and shame for many.

The experiences that lead to these wounds are unique to each of us but essentially they interrupted our innate joy in making sound with our voice, they overwhelmed our nervous system and left many of us afraid to learn new voice skills.

A response grounded in the principles of kindness, patience, safety and connection is essential in working with vocal and learning wounds, taking things at your pace and sensitively responding to you moment to moment in a one to one setting can be supportive, stimulating and life affirming.

One to One Sessions Online

I offer One to One sessions in which you can explore some of these experiences and beliefs and through the support of an authentic, connected relationship with me you can step safely into relationship with your voice and learn to unlock your creative energy and use your voice with more freedom, ease and confidence.

You will learn practices designed to engage your body and voice, have space for reflection on what arises in you when you make sounds or sing, play with different ways of making sound together and individually, explore your deepest longings for your voice.

Sessions are not about learning how to sing, although if you follow the practices and commit regular time and attention to yourself in this way your voice will naturally open up, become more powerful and feel more freedom of expression as a result.

Sessions are about cultivating non judgemental, sacred space for your natural voice to emerge so that you can discover its healing powers and profound impact on your emotional, physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing.

  • "I didn't know what to expect when I signed up to the 4 sessions with Sarah-Jane. I only knew that as a performer I wanted to be able to explore accessing my voice and letting that be heard in a deeper way. What I received from the sessions tho exceeded my expectations! I met where I was holding my voice back from the world, and Sarah-Jane very gently guided and invited me to find my own unique way through. Even though SJ is extremely gentle and supportive, and obviously has so much wisdom and rich resources to play with, I also felt the depth of her standing in what she offers. There's something ancient about SJ's connection to voicework and you can feel that. The sessions were also playful which I enjoyed immensely. I highly recommend working with SJ if you're curious to understand your voice and the power of working with sound. She's something else!"

  • "I have recently joined a Musical Theatre group, and I feel this has been a direct result of the work we did together. I feel much more confident in my voice and am loving exploring my voice more! I'm not singing solo, but am singing in a chorus which is challenging but very enjoyable".

Health Benefits.

What are the Healing & Health Benefits of this Approach

Making sound in this way increases your vagal tone* which supports your body to recover faster after stress, to grow, repair, and restore itself. It balances both sides of the brain (thinking and intuition), releases emotion stored/stuck in your body, increased oxygen in your cells, increases lymphatic circulation (which helps to flush out toxins), increases melatonin levels (which support your immune system and has anti-inflammatory effects), releases endorphins (which help to reduce your perception of pain and contribute to feelings of pleasure) Plus much more!!

*Vagal tone refers to activity of the Vagus Nerve, the biggest cranial nerve in the body which is responsible for a range of functions, including breathing, heart rate, digestion AND the ability to vocalise. Improving vagal tone is thought by neuroscientists (e.g Andrew Huberman, PhD) to be a key element to improving overall health.

What’s Involved

  • A free consultation to connect and explore if this is the right programme and the right time for you (30 minutes)

  • An initial exploratory session (60 minutes) where we will review what stands in the way of your natural voice, discover within you the permission to sing and establish a refuge for your voice.

  • Private online sessions (60 minutes) that offer a space for reflection, theory, practice and support. The initial commitment is 4 sessions which allows patterns to surface and exploration to commence, you can then decide if you wish to continue and commit to more sessions.

  • Email support from me between sessions

  • Co-created actions so that you leave sessions with intuitive, aligned, actionable steps for your practice

  • Respect for your own body’s wisdom and healing potential

The sessions will

  • encourage embodied awareness of your voice

  • offer you practices to connect with your voice and nourish yourself

  • be grounded in polyvagal theory and allow you to use your voice to circumvent overwhelm in your nervous system that leads to tension and chronic conditions, including loss of voice

  • help you to use your voice with more ease, freedom and confidence

  • Prepare you for a Sounding Circle with Sarah Jane (optional)

“I want to sing like the birds sing, not worrying about who hears or what they think”

FAQs about 1:1 Voice Sessions

  • I suggest starting with 4 sessions after which we will have a review and you can decide if you want to continue.

  • The Sessions are an hour long and they take place online via zoom. If you are not familiar with using zoom we can add a little extra time on the initial session to make sure everything is working properly.

  • The sessions cost £50 for one hour or you can book a block of 4 sessions for £180.

These sessions are also offered on a sliding scale for those in financial need (from £20)

  • We begin by getting to know each other and creating a safe container. I will support you in an exploration of your beliefs around your voice and where these may have come from. This may take one session or more, the programme is fluid to respond to your needs. I will share practices which support you to engage with your body and your voice, information about how to regulate your nervous system and feel more confident in your sounds. I offer ideas for things you can do in between sessions to support your practice and deepen the work. There is a lot of space for your reflection and feedback so that the sessions can truly serve you at this time.
