Gestalt Therapy

As a trainee gestalt psychotherapist working towards UKCP accreditation I offer weekly sessions to those wishing to experience a body oriented psychotherapy. These sessions offer an affordable opportunity to experience psychotherapy that reflects my current level of training in this area.

The work involves contracting for a number of sessions that focus on the here and now and support your understanding of how the past continues to affect you and your patterns of relating. My role is not to interpret events but to bring your attention to feelings and indicators of your needs in the moment, to support you to discover your fullest and truest self and what gets in the way of you becoming all that you want to be. I work within the guidelines of the UKCP Ethical Principles and Code of Professional Conduct and hold professional liability insurance.  All communications are conducted in strict confidence and my work is supervised by an experienced and accredited Gestalt supervisor.

I am currently training with The Gestalt Centre Wales to complete my qualification.

I offer a free half hour consultation for new clients.

More about Gestalt

  • What does Gestalt mean?

“Gestalt” is a German word meaning the whole and the sum of all the parts, and the symbolic configuration or pattern of elements, that make up the whole.

Gestalt therapy draws on the belief that old patterns of behaviour and fixed ideas can create blocks which interrupt the natural cycle of wellness. This affects how someone communicates with others.

  • The Approach

The Gestalt approach looks at what is happening in the moment, bringing someone’s responses and interactions with others into focus. The idea is that being fully present in the here and now creates the potential for more excitement, energy, and courage to live life more freely.

A Gestalt therapist would look at how you might resist: contact in the here and now; change; and behaviours or symptoms that you think are undesirable or unsatisfactory. In sessions, you’d look at what is happening and being said as well as body language and repressed feelings. You may also act out scenarios and recall dreams.
