Autumn 2023

The Voice Sanctuary Autumn Series

Hello everyone

This coming Saturday the first Voice Sanctuary of the Autumn Series takes place. I can’t wait to gather in the beautiful Stroud Sky Yoga studio, settle in to our bodies, connect to the mystery and let our true voices sing out.

I would love to see you if you feel like coming along. Please get in touch with any questions and here’s a bit more info to whet your apetite…..

“Maybe you've been told you can't sing, or you love to sing but you feel shy, or you've had a break and want a safe gentle space to experiment with your voice and remember? Maybe you're keen to step into the exciting community of Collaborative Vocal Improvisation (CVI) but you're sometimes easily overwhelmed and need to take it slow.

The Voice Sanctuary sessions are a great first step into CVI , they support you to return home to the place of true safety and sanctuary - the present moment - and discover ways to free your voice, sooth your nervous system and intuit your soul's song.

The sessions are kept small for an intimate feel, they are trauma informed and involve some guided explorations into body and voice. We approach the sacred through our intentions and invite the mystery in.

Connect, Sing, Express.

A key aspect of this last year for me has been to get really honest with myself and to share my gifts in a way that truly reflects the work i’ve done and the integration of my experiences and teachings over the past couple of decades. Walking the line between not simply replicating someone else’s work, honouring my teachers and producing something that feels unique and creative is key and definitely a work in progress. I have been blessed with so many teachers, some of whom I can now call friends. The Well Vocal website talks about the value of ‘Honouring our ancestral and cultural roots as well as our teachers and their legacies’. This feels like an essential part of anything that moves through me into the world right now.

Culturally (i’m referring to the over culture here) we are pretty obsessed with comparing ourselves to others which can bring jealousy, gossip and insecure energy. In our darkest and lightest times we need each other to lift us up, to support each other to rise and to step more fully into our selves and our own path. Two people who have been there for me in this way are Tara Mexis and Siobhan Nolan, both gifted musicians, students and teachers of Collaborative Vocal Improvisation whom I met through learning and working with Briony Greenhill and now consider to be part of that group of highly valued teachers. I am delighted to be supporting them at Connect, Sing, Express in Stroud, where they will be offering an Introduction to Collaborative Vocal Improvisation over the coming weeks. I will be supporting in a practical way, welcoming, and helping folks to orientate themselves in the space, they will be leading the sessions. My experience has been that as Tara and Siobhan have stepped more fully into their paths I have been inspired to step into mine, whilst what we are offering draws from the same well of inspiration and teachings, we are bringing two quite unique opportunities to sing and enjoy body and voice. We hold each others prayers, support each others visions and enjoy each others success.

Would be wonderful to sing with some of you there.

With Love

October Voice Sanctuary

Come and Join us for some nourishing voice exploration this Saturday - 7th October.

As we embrace this season of colour and transformation I invite you to enter the creative realm of your voice. In this changing landscape what if our bodies become the ground in which our belonging can be rooted, our voices the bridge between body and spirit?

In the Autumn Voice Sanctuary, we turn our focus inward, held by the space, our own and each others vocal sounds, we discover a deeper intelligence and that every moment holds potential.

Come as you are.

Some £10 tickets still available or get in touch if the cost is a barrier.

November Voice Sanctuary

The November Voice Sanctuary, the final one of the Autumn series, is on Saturday 11th November at Stroud Sky Yoga from 2.30 to 4.30pm. So far we are an all female group and have been exploring themes of compassion, vulnerability, resilience, resonance, resistance and release through various voice practices. We explore our bodies through guided and unguided movement and voice, we open to sound and allow our voices to sing free. Music making happens, we leave feeling resourced and inspired. You are welcome to join, exactly as you are.
